The Essential Guide to Practical Sustainability in Everyday Life

CONSIDERED SOURCING

Fewer objects. Better choices. Longer use.

Natural materials and considered home objects in a warm Lumen Larch interior

Our approach begins with restraint: a smaller edit, more deliberate purchasing and products chosen for usefulness, material quality and longevity rather than volume.

Materials and making

Where product information supports it, we favour durable materials and careful construction, reflecting Lumen Larch sustainability. We avoid broad environmental claims that we cannot substantiate.

UK-first fulfilment

Our current launch collection, aligned with Lumen Larch sustainability, is sourced from verified UK warehouse stock.

An evolving standard

Supplier practices, packaging and product data vary. As the collection grows, we will document improvements and remove products that no longer meet Lumen Larch sustainability.

What this means in practice

  • A smaller edit. We would rather offer fewer products we can describe accurately than a large range we cannot stand behind.
  • Clear product information. Dimensions, materials and care details are checked and presented consistently so you can choose with confidence and avoid unnecessary returns.
  • Buy once, use for longer. We favour objects with a clear everyday use and materials such as wood, stoneware, glass, rattan and cotton that can be cared for over time.

Caring for what you buy

The most sustainable product is often the one you already own and keep using. A little care extends the life of most natural materials:

  • Hand wash wooden boards and bowls, dry them promptly and oil them occasionally with a food-safe oil.
  • Trim candle wicks before each use for a cleaner, steadier burn.
  • Follow the care label on textiles, and wash at lower temperatures where it allows.

Our Journal includes care-focused guides, such as using linen throughout the home and choosing natural materials.

Honest about what we do not claim

We do not describe the business or its products as carbon neutral, eco-friendly or ethically certified unless a specific product carries verifiable information that supports it. Where a claim appears on a product page, it comes from that product’s own supplier information.

If you have a question about a specific product’s materials or origin, email contact@lumenlarch.com and we will share what we know.
